When I find a cheaper electricity & gas plan, how do I switch energy providers?
Itโs easy, we do it all for you. All you have to do is select your new energy plan, then fill in your details on our web page, and we will send them to your new energy provider to create your new account, and they will notify your current provider of your cancellation. They will work it out between themselves so that you will not experience any interruption to your service.
How long will it take to switch energy providers?
It will only take you a few minutes to complete the โpaperworkโ online. You enter your details here and we automatically send them to your new provider to create your account and also to your current energy retailer to cancel your existing account. They will then usually process the paperwork in under 24 hours. But the actual switchover wonโt proceed until after your current retailer has done a final meter reading, so they can issue a final bill. Energy retailers read meters about every 3 months, so at most, it will take that long to switch to your new retailer.
When I change electricity providers, do they have to connect new wires or change the meter?
No, they definitely donโt have to change any wiring or meters. The electricity is actually delivered to your house by an electricity distributor, who is responsible for the maintenance of the electricity grid in your area. All of the electricity providers from whom you can choose plans, supply the electricity through the same distributor. When you switch electricity providers, all that really happens is that the name of the company on your electricity bill and the charges for your electricity change.
Can I buy electricity directly from a distributor?
You must buy electricity from an electricity retailer (provider). You canโt buy directly from an electricity distributor.
When I switch energy providers, will my gas or electricity be interrupted?
There will not be any interruption to your supply of electricity or gas. This is because they will continue to be supplied by the same energy distributor. All that really changes is the name of the energy retailer that issues your energy bills.
