Downloading an ABA file

Learn how to download an ABA file in Payroller

Learn how to download an ABA file in Payroller using our simple guide below. While Payroller calculates employee wages and generates reports for the ATO, it doesnโ€™t allow direct debit or direct payroll withdrawals. Instead, youโ€™ll need to generate an ABA file and upload it to your banking provider to process payments.

What is an ABA file?

ABA files are used by Australian banks to track payments between bank accounts.

Generally, employers usually pay employees through an ABA file created automatically by their payroll software.

After you have the ABA file, just upload it to your online banking and authorise the payments.

There are three parts to setting up the ABA file in Payroller

Set up company account details

Step 1: Select your company profile.

Some banks require a self-balancing transaction in ABA files. Check with your bank to see if itโ€™s needed. If so, tick โ€˜Include Self Balancing Transactionโ€™.

Please note that once youโ€™ve downloaded the ABA file, you canโ€™t open it directly, as itโ€™s written in code and requires specific banking systems or tools to read and process it.

Once itโ€™s downloaded, youโ€™ll need to upload it to your internet banking provider.

Each bank has a slightly different way of doing this.
