Enabling and submitting STP

Learn how you can submit Single Touch Payroll (STP) to the ATO with Payroller

Learn how to submit STP in Payroller so that your business meets ATO legal requirements, with our easy video tutorial below.

Before youโ€™re able to submit STP, youโ€™ll need to retrieve your Software ID and also register with the ATO.

Once this is completed, you will also need to ensure STP is enabled.

There are two ways to enable STP


Enable STP from a pay run submission

If you have just finished creating a pay run and youโ€™ve pressed submit, the STP declaration will appear automatically. If you have not enabled STP, you will be asked to Enable STP.

Step 1: Select โ€˜Enable STPโ€™.

Step 2: Fill in your Contact details, including your Signatory name, Email address, and Contact number. Youโ€™ll also need to enter your Organisationโ€™s address. Once done, select โ€˜Completeโ€™.

On this page, youโ€™ll also see an instructions on how to notify the ATO about your chosen STP software (Payroller). This will include the software providerโ€™s details.


Step 3: The STP declaration will now pop up. Select โ€˜Reportโ€™.

Please wait up to 72 hours after a submission has been made for the ATO to update their systems. If your STP has failed or it has been longer than 72 hours and has not gone through please use the above method to resubmit. If it does not go through a second time please reach out to us at hello@payroller.com.au so that we can look into this for you.


Reporting a completed pay run

Step 1: If youโ€™re reporting STP for a completed pay run, go to โ€˜Payroll & STPโ€™ page.

Step 2: Click the three dots on the left side of the pay run you want to report.

Step 3: Select โ€˜Report STPโ€™.

Step 4: The STP declaration will now pop up. Select โ€˜Reportโ€™.

Enable STP from the settings

Step 1: Click on your company profile in the lower-left corner of your screen.

Step 2: Select โ€˜Settingsโ€™.

Step 3: Select โ€˜Payroll & STPโ€™ from the menu on the left side of your screen.

Step 4: Click on โ€˜STPโ€™ from the available options.

Step 5: Fill in the required details, then click โ€˜Enable STPโ€™.

Before youโ€™re able to submit anything to the ATO, youโ€™ll need to make sure that youโ€™ve enabled STP and that youโ€™ve registered Payroller as your software provider with the ATO.
