Learn how you can submit Single Touch Payroll (STP) to the ATO with Payroller

Learn how to submit STP in Payroller so that your business meets ATO legal requirements, with our easy video tutorial below.

Before you’re able to submit STP, you’ll need to retrieve your Software ID and also register with the ATO.

Once this is completed, you will also need to ensure STP is enabled.

There are two ways to enable STP


Enable STP from a pay run submission

Step 1: Select ‘Enable STP’.

It will give you instructions on how you can notify the ATO of your chosen STP software (Payroller in this case).

There will also be details about the software provider and your software ID that you can email yourself.

Step 2: If you’re happy with this, you can choose to ‘Continue’.

Step 3: Enter your business address and select from the options provided.


If you cannot find your business address select ‘Enter business address manually’

Select ‘Next’.

Step 4: Enter the signatory name of the individual lodging STP and their contact number.

Click ‘Complete’ when you’re finished.

Step 5: The STP declaration will now pop up. Select ‘Submit STP’.

Please wait up to 72 hours after a submission has been made for the ATO to update their systems. If your STP has failed or it has been longer than 72 hours and has not gone through please use the above method to resubmit. If it does not go through a second time please reach out to us at hello@payroller.com.au so that we can look into this for you.


Reporting a completed pay run

Step 1: If you’re reporting STP for a completed pay run, go to ‘Payroll & STP’ page and select the completed pay run​.

Step 2: Press the Report STP button.​

Step 3: You will now be able to see the STP Lodgement Declaration.​ Fill out the form as required and click ‘Submit STP’.

Enable STP from the settings

Step 1: Firstly, you’ll need to go to the ‘Settings’ section in the column on the left.

Step 2: From there, select ‘STP Settings’.

Step 3: Fill out the STP Settings and click ‘Enable STP’.

Before you’re able to submit anything to the ATO, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve enabled STP and that you’ve registered Payroller as your software provider with the ATO.
